PATRICIA’S DE TOR APARTMENT ON DIPUTACIÓN STREET IN BARCELONA

This apartment, located on a mezzanine floor in Barcelona’s Eixample district, has access to a garden within the plot. It has a long, narrow floor plan with an intermediate patio that receives little light due to its elevated position (mezzanine).

The owner’s proposal was to create two distinct apartments; one facing Diputación Street and the other facing the interior garden. This project was to be achieved by dividing the two apartments, with the entrance hall and the patio (accessible on this floor) as the only common links.

These conditions, combined with the kitchen being designed as an open space with a sliding dining table (which becomes longer as it moves along rails) that could accommodate from two to twelve people.

The door frames of the house, which are made of high-quality, highly crafted wood, as well as some of the floors that were preserved in good condition, are enhanced with two operations: the doors are designed with a shifted vertical axis, leaving a narrow strip of glass to one side (minimizing contact with the existing frames and thus not disturbing them). The floors that can be preserved are wrapped around wooden frames like carpets, absorbing the previous position of the partitions.
